What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that uses fine needles to create thousands of tiny, controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers your body’s natural healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin—the proteins responsible for firm, smooth, youthful-looking skin.
Sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy, microneedling has been used in clinical settings for decades. At Lux Clinic, we use medical-grade devices with adjustable needle depths, allowing us to tailor the treatment precisely to your skin type and concerns.
What Does It Treat?
- Acne scarring – Breaks down scar tissue and encourages new, healthy skin formation
- Uneven texture – Smooths rough or bumpy skin
- Enlarged pores – Tightens the skin around pore openings
- Fine lines and wrinkles – Stimulates collagen to plump and firm
- Sun damage – Improves tone and reduces pigmentation irregularity
- Stretch marks – Can be effective on body areas as well as the face
- Dull complexion – Promotes cell turnover for a brighter appearance
- General skin rejuvenation – Maintains overall skin quality and resilience
Why Microneedling at Lux Clinic?
Medical-Grade Equipment
We use professional microneedling devices—not cosmetic roller devices available on the high street. Adjustable needle depths mean we can treat sensitive areas like around the eyes with precision, and go deeper where scarring or texture concerns require it.
Tailored to Your Skin
Your microneedling session is never one-size-fits-all. We assess your skin type, sensitivity, and specific concerns before deciding on needle depth, treatment areas, and whether to combine microneedling with other protocols such as PRP treatment for enhanced results.
Combination Therapies
Microneedling works exceptionally well as part of a broader treatment plan. Many clients pair it with a chemical peel for deeper resurfacing, or alternate with Hydrafacial for ongoing maintenance between sessions. We will recommend the right combination during your consultation.
What to Expect
Your Consultation
We begin with a skin assessment to determine whether microneedling is appropriate for your concerns. We will discuss your medical history, current skincare routine, and any medications that might affect treatment, such as blood thinners or retinoids.
The Treatment (45-60 minutes)
- Cleansing – Thorough removal of makeup and impurities
- Numbing – A topical anaesthetic cream is applied and left to take effect (20-30 minutes)
- Microneedling – The device is passed over treatment areas, creating controlled micro-channels
- Serum application – Active serums are applied immediately, as micro-channels allow deeper absorption
- Soothing – A calming mask or balm is applied to reduce redness
After Your Treatment
- Redness and mild swelling are normal, similar to moderate sunburn—this typically resolves within 24-48 hours
- Skin may feel tight or slightly sensitive for a day or two
- Avoid makeup, active skincare ingredients (retinol, acids), and direct sun exposure for 48-72 hours
- Use SPF 30+ daily during the recovery period
- Visible improvements develop over 2-4 weeks as new collagen forms
- A course of 3-6 sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, is typically recommended for best results

Frequently Asked Questions
Does microneedling hurt? With topical anaesthetic applied beforehand, most clients find it very manageable. You may feel pressure and a light scratching sensation. Deeper treatments for scarring may be slightly more uncomfortable, but it is generally well tolerated.
How many sessions will I need? This depends on your concerns. Mild texture or pore issues may respond well to 3 sessions. Acne scarring or deeper lines often benefit from 4-6 sessions. Your practitioner will recommend a plan after your initial assessment.
Can I combine microneedling with other treatments? Yes. Microneedling pairs particularly well with PRP treatment, where your own platelet-rich plasma is applied during the session to accelerate healing and enhance results. We may also suggest alternating with Hydrafacial for ongoing skin maintenance.
Is there any downtime? Minimal. Expect redness for 24-48 hours, similar to a mild sunburn. Most clients return to normal activities the following day, though we recommend avoiding heavy exercise, saunas, and sunbeds for a few days post-treatment.
When will I see results? Some clients notice an immediate glow within days, but the real results come from the collagen remodelling process, which develops over 4-6 weeks after each session. Full results from a course of treatments become visible over several months.
